THE MANSHIP PRIZE

The Manship Prize, sponsored by the LSU Manship School of Mass
Communication and awarded by the School’s Board of Visitors,
recognizes a professional who has encouraged and enhanced civic
engagement through the innovative use of media.
Qualified individuals or organizations must be based in the United
States and have done work in and/or through media that has advanced
citizens’ ability to better understand and respond to challenges in
the public arena.  Nominees may be journalists, documentarians,
authors, bloggers, website-content providers, academics, or others
and their work may be accomplished at any level— local, regional,
national or international.

Nominations (including self-nomination)  are due March 17; judges
will notify the winner in mid-April.  The winner will receive a
commemorative art piece and an expense-paid trip to a public event at
Louisiana State University at which the award will be made,  (need a
fall date), 2010.  The winner is expected to attend the event and
give a talk on the subject for which he/she/they  is being
recognized.

Nominations must include supportive information about the individual
or organization’s contribution to civic engagement through the
innovative use of media.

*  a resume or C.V.
*  *work samples such as copies of print or electronic news stories;
transcriptions or summaries of electronic submissions;
*  *links (URL) to relevant live pages or screen shots with
publication dates; copies of eligible creative/published works
such as books, journal articles, DVDs, etc .

There is no entry fee.

ABOUT THE MANSHIP PRIZE:
The award, first presented in 1998, is funded by an endowment from
the Douglas L. Manship family to recognize exemplary use of new media
technology in the service of public affairs.  This reflects the
School’s focus and demonstrated leadership in the area of media and
public affairs.
